LEXINGTON, Ky. – Men's competition wrapped up on day three of the NCAA East First Rounds and saw Mustapha Bokpin punch two tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships from the Shively Track & Field Stadium.
In his first event of the day, Bokpin ran a blazing time of 9.97 seconds in the 100M to finish second in his heat and the quarterfinals overall. His second-quickest time of the season also marked the second time that the sophomore has broken 10 seconds in the sprint event.
Just over an hour later, the sprinter returned to the track for the 200 meter competition. In the quickest heat of the evening, Bokpin kicked it in gear for the final 50 meters, running a 20.28. He was the fastest of the qualifiers who finished outside the top three from their heats, crossing the line just four-hundredths of a second after the third-place athlete in heat three. The qualifications for Bokpin represent the first time since the 2022-23 season that a male Blue Raider or a Blue Raider sprinter has advanced to Eugene.
Outside the running events, Joel Iheakolam completed competition in the triple jump, going off in the first flight of the day. He improved with each jump attempt, but fell short of advancing to nationals, finishing in 20th with a best jump of 15.49m.
Privillege Chikara will be the lone Blue Raider competing tomorrow, running the 800M at 6:05 p.m. CT with the chance to join Bokpin in TrackTown USA.
