MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee right-handed pitcher Aaron Brown has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week for his performance against FIU on Friday.
The Blue Raider starting pitcher became just the eighth pitcher in program history to record 100 strikeouts in a single season in his start on Friday. To go along with the massive milestone, Brown's outing also marked the fourth time this season in which he struck out nine or more batters and allowed no walks in a game. Brown made his exit after pitching eight innings, fanned a total of 11 Panthers and allowed no runs in the Blue Raider's 3-0 win over FIU. Panther batters hit just .172 against Brown and only mustered five hits (all singles) off him all day.
This seasons Brown has a record of 6-5 over 13 starts and has a total of 107 strikeouts which ranks seventh most for a season in program history. Brown's 107:13 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks him No. 9 nationally and has the seventh most strikeouts in the country. Brown is also one of 20 pitchers in the country to record 100 or more strikeouts this season.
Brown earns his first C-USA Pitcher of the Week nod for the first time in his career at MT. Brown won Tennessee Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week earlier this season.
The junior from Mt. Juliet joins teammate Zach Keenan who won Pitcher of the Week earlier this season with a pair of appearances that included a win, a save and 12 combined strikeouts against Oakland and Bowling Green.
