Rocha to Take on Florida's Andrade in NCAA Singles First Round

ORLANDO, Fla. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis player Francisco Rocha now knows who he will play in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship as the bracket was revealed Friday morning.
Rocha will take on Florida's Andy Andrede, Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m. CST. Andrede enters the championships ranked #18 in the country while Rocha is #55.
The winner of the match will advance to play the winner of the matchup between #8 Gabriel Decamps of UCF and #38 Micah Braswell of Texas. Both Florida and Texas are still competing in the team championship as they will face each other in the Final Four, Friday evening.
Rocha is the first Blue Raider to qualify for the singles championship since John Peers in 2010 and the first player to qualify under head coach Jimmy Borendame.
The Portugal native will look to become the first MTSU player to win a singles match since 2003 when Daniel Klemetz advanced to the round of 16. The furthest a Blue Raider has advanced in the Singles Championship came back in 1997 when Fred Niemeyer advanced to the quarterfinals.
Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom are the only Blue Raiders to win a tennis national championship when the won the doubles championship in 2007. Born, currently the Athletic Director at Lamar University and a member of the NCAA Tennis Committee, presented Rocha with the NCAA Elite 90 award, Friday morning.
