MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis kicks off the 2021-22 season this weekend as they host the Coach Dale Short Shootout on Sept. 17-19. First serve for all matches begin at 10 a.m. each day.
The tournament will consist of duals with two doubles matches and four singles matches.
The Blue Raiders will feature some fresh faces this weekend. As freshmen Mattia Bernardi, Oskar Brostrom Poulsen, John Chin, and Lucas Olivier will compete during this weekend's matches.
"We are excited to get these four freshmen some matches this weekend and introduce them to college tennis," expressed head coach Jimmy Borendame. "Each day we work with them, they have continued to improve their play, and this will be a great learning experience for them. Our focus this fall as a team is to build team chemistry, discipline and simply get better each day."
Middle Tennessee will take on the Lipscomb Bison on Friday, before matching up against the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday, and then closing out the weekend against the Belmont Bruins on Sunday.
The Blue Raiders return four important pieces from a season ago in fifth-year graduate Chris Edge, as well as seniors Francisco Rocha, Pavel Motl, and Stijn Slump, in addition to adding some veteran experience with New Mexico graduate transfer Stepan Holis.
