Blue Raiders open play in the Coach Dale Short Shootout

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team opened up the 2021 fall slate on Friday in the Dale Short Shootout, taking on the Lipscomb Bison.
"Guys looked solid today, lots to work on, but nice to get the first college matches under our belts," expressed head coach Jimmy Borendame. "Looking forward to tomorrow and Sunday."
The Blue Raiders earned a doubles win and swept the Bison in singles, taking all four matches.
Freshmen Mattia Bernardi and Lucas Olivier went down early 0-2 against Lipscomb, but the duo battled back to outscore the Bison 6-2 and secure the double win for the Blue Raiders, 6-4. Freshmen Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and John Chin kept the score tight with Lipscomb trailing by one, 4-5, but the Bison closed things out as the Blue Raiders fell 4-6 in the second doubles match.
The Blue Raiders swept the Bison in singles as Brostrom earned a two-set victory (6-2, 7-6 (7-3)) over Sam Fisher. John Chin defeated Lipscomb's Carlos Salas Tulla in two sets (6-3, 6-4). Lucas Olivier earned an impressive two-set victory against the Bison's Alex Mesquida (6-3, 7-6 (13-11)) which included an absolute battle in the tiebreak to secure the win. Freshman Mattia Bernardi rounded out the competition on Friday earning an incredible three-set comeback win over Lipscomb's Jake Penny, dropping the first set 5-7, before tallying a 7-5 win in the second set and then capped it off with a 6-2 performance to close out the opening day of competition.
