Blue Raiders Earn First Victory on Season

FORT MYERS, Fla. – After an exciting dual-match, Middle Tennessee women's tennis (1-1) conquers Georgia State (0-3) with a team score of 4-1 on Monday, Jan. 17 at the FGCU Tennis Complex to secure their first win on the season.

The Blue Raiders won the first doubles match on court No. 3, Freshman Eloise Swarbrick made her Middle Tennessee debut paired up with Lilly-Sophie Schmidt and triumphed 6-3. Love-Star Alexis and Zani Barnard lost to Eva Chivu and Andreea Stanescu of GSU on court No. 1. The Panthers secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court No. 2.

In singles, the Blue Raiders bounced back and won the first four of six sets. In the second singles set, MT did not let their foot off the gas and similarly won four sets,

On the Blue Raiders top court, Lee Barnard showed why she is on court No. 1 with a two-set 6-3 victory over GSU's Chivu. Alexis followed shortly after with a three-set singles victory on court No. 2 (3-6, 6-3, 6-1). Junior Muskan Gupta finished third on the third court in two sets (6-4, 7-5).

Georgia native Noelle Mauro clinched the overall match with a (6-4, 6-4) victory on court No. 5, she defeated fellow Georgian Angel Carney of GSU. Mauro moves to 2-0 on the season on court No. 5.

Middle Tennessee women's tennis returns to action next week in Nashville, Tenn. to face Vanderbilt and Belmont in two true road matches on Friday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. CT.
