Blue Raiders increase lead at Pat Hicks Invitational

All seven players carded below-par rounds, All five lineup members in the top 10
ST. GEORGE, Utah – Middle Tennessee men's golf padded its lead Saturday in the second round of Southern Utah's Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational. The Blue Raiders took two strokes off their first-round score, carding a 274 (-14) as all seven players finished the round below par at Sunbrook Golf Course.
Owen Stamper was the biggest mover on Saturday, going from a tie for 25th to a tie for eighth with a 66 (-6). The sophomore from Scottsville, Ky., came within one stroke of his career low with the help of four birdies and two eagles. His two-round score is 139 (-5).
Kevin Jegers leads the Blue Raiders through two rounds at 137 (-7). The Tallinn, Estonia, native is tied for fifth after carding a 68 (-4) Saturday.
Michael Barnard closed the second round strong, overcoming a stretch from holes 5-8 in which he was 3-over to finish with a 70 (-2). The Hendersonville, Tenn., native used an eagle and four birdies – including three over the final eight holes – to end the day in seventh place at 138 (-6).
Nick Wolf and Jack Heath ended the day tied for 10th at 140 (-4). Heath started the day with his first of what would be six birdies en route to a 70 (-2) for the day. Wolf carded a 71 (-1) for the score that did not count toward Middle Tennessee's team score.
Playing as individuals, Gavin Clements and Mattias Varjun ended the day tied for 22nd at 144 (E). Clements carded a 69 to tie his season low, as Varjun shot a 71 (-1).
The Blue Raiders' score of 274 ties the seventh-lowest single-round team score in program history and equals the third-lowest second round score. Stamper's 66 is tied for the 12th-lowest individual round by a Blue Raider.
MT's 47 birdies and eight eagles both lead the field. Stamper and Barnard are tied for the lead with three eagles apiece.
The Blue Raiders hold a 12-stroke lead over second-place Oral Roberts heading into Sunday's third round. Jegers is three strokes off the individual lead.
