Blue Raiders Go Cold at Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee dropped its first midweek game of the season to Belmont 1-11 in a rain-shortened contest Wednesday.
On a frigid and rainy day at Rose Field, not much went right for MT. The Blue Raiders (1-4), allowed a season-high 11 runs, made a season-high three errors and scored a season-low one run against the Bruins (4-1).
Seven players made their MT debuts, including starter Avery Gunn, who struck out two, allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings.
Tatsunori Negishi and Mason Speirs each collected two hits while Speirs drove in MT's lone run on an RBI single in the top of the second.
The Blue Raiders and Bruins were deadlocked at one after two innings until Belmont's RBI single started a 10 unanswered runs spread out over the next six innings.
Up Next
Middle Tennessee will head to Myrtle Beach for the Carolinas Coastline Classic Friday through Sunday. The Blue Raiders will start the weekend with Illinois Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. CT.
