Edge Named Conference USA Athlete of the Week

DALLAS – Graduate Student Chris Edge was given the nod as the Feb. 23 Conference USA Athlete of the Week after finishing last weekend at 3-0 overall and played a huge role in defeating two power 5 opponents.
Edge kicked off doubles play defeating Maxwell Giddens and Raul Dobai of Auburn at 6-3. He moves to 11-1 on the season paired with Graduate Student Holis on court No. 3.
The Carlisle, Great Britain native would also take down No. 85 Tad Maclean 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 for his first ranked singles win of his career in the 4-2 win over No. 24 Auburn. This was the first top 25 win for Middle Tennessee since March 10, 2006.
Two days later Edge would earn a straight-sets 6-1, 6-1 victory over Graydon Lair of Michigan State on the road and push his winning streak to seven-straight wins on court No. 3 and 11-2 overall on the season.
Edge continues to climb the Middle Tennessee record book in his final season as a Blue Raider, as of Wednesday, Feb. 23, Edge is second all-time in Blue Raider history in singles winning percentage with a record of 97-30 (.763), ninth in doubles winning percentage 94-40 (.701), and has earned 191 overall wins placing him inside the top three at MT.
The Blue Raiders return to action this week at the Blue Grey Championships Invitational in Montgomery, Ala. MT will have two matches against some of the top competition in the country, the field includes No. 17 Arizona, No. 24 Auburn, Alabama, Nebraska, Princeton, Tulane, and VCU.
Middle Tennessee is now ranked #30 in the latest team ITA Rankings and receiving votes in the Feb. 23 Tennis Channel / USTA College Rankings Top 25 poll.
