Dodd, Hill named Preseason All-C-USA

DALLAS – Senior Corrina Dodd and junior Kelci Hill were named Preseason All-C-USA on Tuesday, announced by the league office.
The preseason All-C-USA Softball Team is voted on by the league's head coaches and consists of three pitches, two catchers, one designated player, four outfielders, and five infielders, although a six infielder was included due to a tie in votes.
Dodd appeared in 22 contests and received 16 starts for the Blue Raiders during the 2021 campaign. She led the Blue Raiders with 58 strikeouts in a breakout season that placed her second on the team in ERA (2.64), wins (8-4), appearances (22), starts (16), complete games (5), shutouts (2), and innings pitched (103.1). In the conference, Dodd finished tied for seventh in runners caught stealing (6), 13th in ERA (2.78), tied for 10th in innings pitched (98.1), and tied for 11th in wins (8). She was named C-USA Pitcher of the Week twice, on March 22 and April 19, while also being the first Blue Raider honored with multiple TSWA Pitcher of the Week awards, earning recognition on March 23 and April 20. Dodd Pitched a season-high 7.1 innings and posted a season-best seven strikeouts against North Dakota State on March 12. Academically, Dodd was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Hill is coming off a stellar 2021 campaign that saw the dynamic outfielder earn C-USA Second and Freshman Team honors. She played in and started all but one game (47) for the Blue Raiders last season. Hill finished the season seventh in C-USA and led the Blue Raiders with a .366 batting average in 153 at-bats. She led C-USA in sacrifice bunts with nine and sacrifice flies with five, which also tied the season program record. Hill recorded a team-leading 56 hits, which was third-best in C-USA, and finished second on the team with 21 RBIs. She tied for the team lead in triples with three, finished second on the team in home runs with two, and finished the season with eight doubles for third-best on the team. She was named C-USA Hitter of the Week on April 12 after an impressive series against Marshall. In the classroom, Hill was awarded a C-USA Academic Medal and was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The Blue Raiders were selected to finish sixth in the conference in the preseason coaches' poll. Charlotte is the preseason favorite, followed by North Texas and Western Kentucky rounding out the top three spots. UAB and Marshall took fourth and fifth ahead of the Blue Raiders. LA Tech, FIU, Southern Miss and UTSA were marked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively, while UTEP and FAU rounded out the poll in 11th and 12th.
Middle Tennessee Softball opens its 2022 campaign in San Diego, California at the SDSU Season Kickoff on Thursday, February 10 against Stanford and host SDSU. The Blue Raiders will then play Boise State on Friday, February 11. Middle Tennessee will take on Boise State for a second time, before playing Cal Poly on Saturday, February 12, and then will close out their opening weekend against University of Illinois – Chicago on Sunday, February 13.
