Middle Tennessee Soccer honored with United Soccer Coaches College Team Ethics & Sportsmanship Award

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Adding to the many accolades and accomplishments of Middle Tennessee Soccer, the program was honored with the 2021 United Soccer Coaches College Team Ethics & Sportsmanship Bronze Award.
The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award was created to recognize teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior, and adherence to the laws of the game.
To be eligible to be recognized, first, teams must play a minimum number of matches that equal the number of matches required to qualify for postseason play or play at least 10 matches. Second, the team must not have received any red cards at any time during regular or postseason play. Third, the teams yellow card percentage may not exceed 50 percent (total yellow card received divided by regular and post season games played. Lastly, the team must be a current college services program member and have finished play for the current season, including regular and postseason play.
Middle Tennessee was one of 55 teams in the bronze level, designated for teams who accumulate a card percentage between 31-50 percent. The Blue Raiders accumulated seven yellows in their 19 games, who no player finishing the year with more than one. The 2021 season also marked the team's lowest cards since the 2018 season.
The Blue Raiders finished the 2021 season with a 9-8-2 overall record and their fourth C-USA tournament appearance over the past five seasons. Middle Tennessee Soccer's PK win over Rice, 0-0 (4-3 PKs) marked the team's first postseason win since the 2015 season, in which the Blue Raiders defeated No. 4-seed Rice, 1-0.
The Blue Raiders spring season-opener against Belmont was postponed due to weather, so Middle Tennessee Soccer will open its spring season on March 26 at the WKU Tournament against the University of the Cumberlands and the University of Southern Indiana in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
