It didn't take long for the Blue Raiders to get things started in the contest. After a lineout and a groundout, freshman Anyce Harvey smashed the first pitch she faced over the left-field wall to record her second home run of the season and give the Blue Raiders the 1-0 lead.
Marshall opened the second with a leadoff walk before a hit by pitch put two Thundering Herd baserunners on with no one out. Marshall's Pye connected on an RBI double into left-center and Owen reached on an error, which scored Stevenson to give the Thundering Herd the 2-1 lead after the first.
The Thundering Herd added three more in the second. Adams led off the inning for Marshall, doubling into right-center. A bunt from Brown moved Adams to third and Brown stole second to put two Marshall baserunners in scoring position. Harrell then connected on a double down the right-field line to bring across two and double the Marshall lead, 4-1. The Thundering Herd's third run of the inning came off a solo home run from Pye to put Marshall up 5-1 after two.
The Blue Raiders held the Thundering Herd scoreless through the third and fourth innings, but Marshall continued to extend its lead in the fifth. After a leadoff walk, Marshall's Whitaker and Chelemen connected on back-to-back one-out RBI-doubles to plate two more and make it 7-1 Marshall. The Thundering Herd tacked on one more in the fifth on an RBI groundout from Lucas to put Marshall up by seven runs heading to the sixth, 8-1.
The Thundering Herd closed things in the sixth. Marshall put one on off a one-out single from Owen. She advanced to second on a Blue Raider walk and then came home on a Chelemen RBI-double to close out the 9-1 ballgame.
