Coach Hayes Celebration of Life set for June 4
Earlier today, the Middle Tennessee Athletic Department announced it will celebrate the life of legendary track and field coach Dean A. Hayes during a ceremony at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium, June 4, at 4:30 p.m.
The Celebration of Life will be open to the public, and feature speakers from different areas of the hall of fame coach's career, including former athletes and coaching colleagues, both within MT and from the international track and field community.
A reception will follow the Celebration of Life to allow those in attendance to continue sharing stories and reminisce with others whose lives Hayes touched. The celebration of life will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend on the Middle Tennessee Athletics YouTube account (GoBlueRaidersTV).
If you plan on attending, RSVP to Associate Director of Communications Tony Stinnett at Tony.Stinnett@mtsu.edu.
Memories, reflections, and well wishes can be sent to the family at coachdeanhayes@gmail.com.

Baseball takes two from UAB
It was a great weekend on the diamond for the Blue Raiders down in Birmingham, as MT took two of three from the UAB Blazers to make MT one of five C-USA schools to start their season 3-3 in conference play.
What made the weekend fun for the Blue Raiders was the variety of ways they found to be successful, riding ace performances from Zach Keenan and Peyton Wigginton to a combined shutout on Friday, and then having the bats come alive for six runs on Saturday in a 6-3 victory over the Blazers.
Keenan struck out 11 in the seven innings while only allowing two hits on Friday, with Wigginton earning his first career save with two innings of scoreless relief work in which he struck out three and allowed no hits.

On Saturday, three Blue Raider doubles and a triple put some ducks on the pond for Middle Tennessee, as MT got six runs across the plate while Eriq Swan earned his first win of 2022 with six innings of three-run ball.

Support the Coach Peterson Champions Plaza
Eagle eyed visitors to GoBlueRaiders.com's homepage might've noticed two rotating graphics at the top, both honoring two late Blue Raider legends. One is for Coach Hayes' celebration of life, which you heard about above.
The other is for the Steve Peterson Champions Plaza, a project to be built along the left field line outside of Reese Smith Jr. Field to more permanently honor the championship teams honored in the flags Coach Pete loved to fly on the flag poles down the line. Each flag will now have a marble foundation, each with a plaque engraved with the names of each coach, player, and manager associated with that specific championship team.

Men's Tennis wins battle of Raiders in dramatic fashion
C-USA Championships are fast approaching, but your Middle Tennessee Men's Tennis team keeps on rolling, securing another ranked victory over Texas Tech over the weekend to improve to 21-3 on the year.
Fans out on Friday at the ATC were treated to a thrilling back and forth match between the two squads that came down the final court, where Francisco Rocha came through in three sets on Court 2, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, to clinch the fourth point and give MT the victory in the Battle of the Raiders.

MT once again was dominant in doubles, where Chris Edge's victory with Stepan Hollis gave the Brit his 100th win in singles AND doubles for the Blue Raiders. Edge is just the second MT Men's Tennis player ever to reach 100 wins in both disciplines in their collegiate career.

From the Glass House to the Glass City, Middle Tennessee women's basketball is getting ready for tipoff right now in Toledo, Ohio in the quarterfinals of the WNIT. Taking on the Toledo Rockets, tonight's game tips off on ESPN3 at 6 pm central.
Here's a few highlights of the team's preparation (and also how I discovered assistant coach Matt Insell has a TikTok account).
