MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Indiana Invitational on Friday, April 22nd, and at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Saturday, April 23rd.
The Georgia Tech Invitational was highlighted by Alaba Akintola breaking the 28-year-old 200-meter record set by Roland McGhee in 1994. Akintola took second behind the nation's leader with a time of 20.34 seconds. His new best puts him first in the conference for the 200 meter and marks his third program record this season.
The Blue Raiders had three other first-place finishes in Georgia in Omamuyovwi Erhire, Glory Nyenke, and the men's 4x100 team. Erhire recorded a jump of 2.10 meters which would rank third in conference behind his jump of 2.18 meters. Nyenke set a personal-best time of 59.02 seconds in the women's 400 meter, ranking her fourth in the conference.
The other program record set this weekend came from Eusila Chepkemei as she ran a time of 4:13.16 in the women's 1500 meter. Her first place at the Indiana Invitational places her at fourth in the nation and replaces the previous record of 4:17.75 set by Agnes Abu in 2017. Chepkemei now holds five program records, all set within the last two months.
