MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee (19-29, 6-13 C-USA) centerfielder Kelci Hill's bat has been hot of late. Coming off a 4-for-10 weekend at UTEP, Hill had a productive night in the Blue Raiders series opener against Conference USA western division foe Louisiana Tech (33-17, 13-6 C-USA). However, Hill's 2-for-3 night wasn't enough to help her team overcome the production from the top of the LA Tech lineup as the Blue Raiders fell 5-1 on Friday night at Blue Raider Softball Field.
The Lady Techsters didn't waste any time getting on the board, stringing together three hits in the top of the first to net a couple of runs and give them a 2-0 lead.
Middle Tennessee responded with a run of its' own in the bottom of the first, with Laura Mealer coming around to score after a leadoff single.
Louisiana Tech got a pair of two-out hits, a double from designated player Kylie Neal, and a single from leadoff hitter Sierra Sacco to extend the Lady Techsters' lead to 3-1.
After being held scoreless in the third, an RBI-triple from Kylie Neel and an RBI-double by Amanda Gonzalez in the top of the fourth spelled the end of the line for Middle Tennessee starter Gretchen Mead. She gave up five runs in four innings of work, striking out three.
Down 5-1, Danielle Taitt took over for Mead in the fifth and tossed three shutout innings out of the bullpen, allowing just three hits.
Louisiana Tech starter Audrey Pickett improved her overall record to 22-5 on the year by tossing a complete game, her 23rd of the season. Pickett allowed one run on six hits and had three strikeouts.
Offensively for the Lady Techsters, the top two hitters in the lineup, Sierra Sacco and Amana Gonzalez, combined to go 5-for-8 with a double, a stolen base, and a pair of runs scored, proving to be a tough piece of the puzzle for the Blue Raider pitching staff to solve on Friday night.
