DALLAS – Senior Brian Rono has been named to the men's Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. This is Rono's third All-Academic Team honor since coming to Murfreesboro.
Rono goes back-to-back for track and field All-Academic nominations after putting another great year in Conference USA in the books. The Kenya native earned his 10th track and field/cross country All-Conference selection this season after helping taking gold during the men's DMR finals at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in February. He also earned a bronze medal for his third-place finish in the men's 800 meter at the championships and held a GPA of 3.569 this year.
Rono finished in the top-five at eight meets this year, which included the fifth best time in conference during the indoor season of 1:53.79 in the men's 800-meter dash. Currently he holds the fourth-best time in the outdoor season at 1:51.66. At the Penn Relays Rono helped push the Blue Raiders to a first-place finish in the men's sprint medley with a squad time of 3:24.70, which ranks in the top-ten in the nation.
