Blue Raiders start season with 10-under performance

Middle Tennessee sits in a tie for fifth, four strokes off the lead.
CHOUDRANT, La. — Middle Tennessee men's golf started the 2022-23 season by making a statement, firing a 10-under 278 to kick off the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. Kevin Jegers led the way with a 67 (-5), tying for fifth individually as the Blue Raiders ended the day in a tie with LSU and Southern Miss for fifth.
Jegers carded seven birdies in Sunday's first round, including five on the front nine to wrap up the day's action.
Owen Stamper provided a 69 (-3) Sunday, matching Jegers with five birdies on the front nine and ending play with six total. He enters the second round tied for 16th after birdieing four of his final five holes of the day.
Making his lineup debut, Carter Maneth shot a 70 (-2) Sunday, picking up five birdies of his own. The Texarkana, Texas, native ended the round in a tie for 24th.
No member of the Blue Raider lineup finished the day over par, as Michael Barnard and Gavin Clements rounded out the lineup with matching scores of 72 (E), ending play in a tie for 54th. Clements leads the field with eight birdies through one round.
Competing as an individual, Markus Varjun carded a 75 (+3), ending the round in a tie for 92nd.
Louisiana Monroe leads the field at 274 (-14). Jegers is two strokes behind LSU's Garrett Barber for the individual lead.
