MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Five Middle Tennessee Soccer student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Goalkeeper Hannah Suder, defender Caroline Manley, midfielders Sascha Nielsen and Manon Lebargy, and forward Idun Kvaale were all named to the All-District team and will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
"I'm very proud of our players receiving this recognition, as we place a lot of emphasis on academics. I hope they will be further considered for Academic All-American status," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
Graduate students Suder and Manley each left their mark on the program and the record book. Manley surpassed Vanessa Mueggler on Oct. 8 for most minutes played in Blue Raider history. Manley—a graduate student from Arlington, Tenn.—did not miss a match or start since beginning her MTSU career in 2019, which included a run of 79 matches and starts. She played 5,936 consecutive minutes since Oct. 11, 2019, and has 7,212 total minutes under her belt across her historic career. She was the first Blue Raider to enter the 7,000 career minute club. Manley also finished her career ninth in games played and tied for second in games started.
Suder meanwhile finished her career in the top 10 of numerous program goalkeeping records. This includes being fourth in career saves (241), tied for third in games started (61), third in games played (66), third in minutes played (5,600:32), sixth in shutouts (12) and fifth in wins (21).
Lebargy—a sophomore—finished first on the team in goals (8) and points (19) in 2023. The Lille, France native was also tied for third in Conference USA in goals and third in points across the regular season. She had braces against Lipscomb and Chicago State while also adding goals against Cleveland State, Chattanooga, Jacksonville State and FIU.
The sophomore Kvaale started each match at forward, and had assists in fixtures against Louisiana, Chicago State and Sam Houston. The sophomore and Molde, Norway native's first career goal came Sept. 3 vs. Cleveland State.
Nielsen—a junior—played in each match, starting in 14 fixtures. The midfielder scored at New Mexico State Sept. 24 while tallying an assist against Cleveland State Sept. 3.
The five award recipients are the most MTSU has had in a single season. The Blue Raiders last had an All-District honoree in 2021, when Peyton DePriest advanced to become a second-team Academic All-American.
