MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Baseball is fresh off a four-game weekend sweep over St. Bonaventure at home, and will look to continue its success at Reese Smith Jr. Field when the Blue Raiders play Belmont Tuesday.
First pitch from Murfreesboro is set for 3:00 p.m. The matchup can be streamed on ESPN+, with WGNS 101.9 FM / 1450 AM (Murfreesboro), WGNS 100.5 FM (Smyrna) carrying the radio broadcast.
Starting Pitcher
RHP Bryant Beranek is slated to start Tuesday's game. The freshman from Spring Hill, Tenn. made his career debut last Tuesday against SEMO, and earned a five-inning win. Beranek allowed no runs or walks, surrendered just a single hit and struck out a pair of batters in the 8-3 win.
All-Time Against Belmont
The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series with Belmont, 46-15. The sides last met on April 19 last year in Murfreesboro, a 3-1 win for MTSU.
Quick Hitters
» Middle Tennessee has flexed its muscle at the plate so far in 2023. The Blue Raiders are slugging .522 as a team thus far this season, and have already hit 12 home runs. 1B DJ Wright leads MTSU with four homers on the year, with Jeremiah Boyd, Briggs Rutter, Gabe Jennings and Eston Snider all following with two each.
» In addition to power, the Raiders have also displayed a robust plate approach and show that in their batting averages. Five qualifying stat earners are batting over .300, with three in that group sitting at a .400 or greater AVG led by Rutter's .455 clip.
» MTSU is coming off a four-game series against St. Bonaventure where it used just nine pitchers across the weekend. Jaden Hamm earned his second win of the season via a 7.2-frame outing in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader. Eriq Swan tossed six innings and claimed the winning decision Saturday.
Across 13.2 IP, the Blue Raider bullpen combined for just two earned runs against the Bonnies. Sunday, LHP Jake Cothran was the first relief pitcher to earn a win for MTSU in 2023.
» The Blue Raiders are 5-0 when their starting pitcher lasts five innings or longer, 3-0 when an opposing left-handed pitcher starts, 5-0 when leading after six innings and 6-0 when leading after eight.
Scouting the Bruins
» Belmont is off to a 2-6 start to 2023, after suffering a sweep at North Carolina State last weekend.
» Junior infielder Sam Kirkpatrick currently leads Belmont with a .448 AVG and a 1.069 OPS, with a home run and five RBI. Fellow junior infielder Mason Landers follows with a .286 AVG and 1.034 OPS, and has a team-high three home runs so far in this young season.
» The Bruins went 39-20 a year ago, including a clip of 18-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference. They fell to SEMO in the OVC Tournament Championship in 10 innings.
» Head Coach Dave Jarvis leads the Bruins into the Missouri Valley Conference this year, his 26th with the Nashville program.
