Blue Raiders Fall in Game 2 at UTSA
4/15/2023 5:06:00 PM | Baseball
SAN ANTONIO – Middle Tennessee Baseball got within one run in the fifth inning at Roadrunner Field on Saturday, but would ultimately fall 12-4 on Saturday to the UTSA Roadrunners.
The Blue Raiders are now 17-16 and 8-6 in Conference USA action.
Trailing 4-0 after four innings, the Blue Raiders got on the board in the top of the fifth off heads up baserunning, as both Luke Vinson and Eston Snider scored on an E6 off the bat of JT Mabry.
An at bat later, Brett Coker singled to right center to make it 4-3.
The Roadrunners would swiftly recreate separation however with a six-run fifth inning.
Jackson Galloway scored in the sixth off the bat of a Snider fielder's choice, but a two-run sixth from UTSA a half-inning later made it 12-4 in favor of the home team.
The Skipper Speaks
"The margin for error against UTSA is very small. They do all the things right. They pond the zone and stay quick to the plate, so it's hard to run on them. They grind out at bats as well as anybody we've seen, one through nine. They force you to try and execute a certain way, and when you don't, they're prepared to do some damage and they've been able to do that," said head coach Jerry Meyers.
By the Numbers
4.1: RHP Jaden Hamm went 4.1 innings, allowing three earned runs in the loss.
3.0: RHP Kota Sato gave the Raiders three innings out of the bullpen, with scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth.
3-4: Coker was 3-4 with an RBI and stolen base Saturday and is currently hitting a combined 5-7 across the series.
Blue Raider Notes
Cale Vinson, Tatsunori Negishi and Jared Vetetoe made appearances Saturday off the bench, at second base, first base and catcher respectively. And Kam Johnson and Bryce Symlar all pinch-hit late in the contest.
Galloway extended his on-base streak to 13 games and has the team's longest current on-base streak.
