Blue Raiders secure No. 2 seed in match play; Stamper, Jegers named All-Tournament

MTSU will take on No. 3 LA Tech to start match play Thursday morning
TEXARKANA, Texas — Middle Tennessee men's golf has advanced to the match play portion of the Conference USA Championship for the fourth time in the last five tournaments after finishing second in the stroke play portion of the tournament at 873 (+9). Owen Stamper and Kevin Jegers earned All-Tournament honors for finishing in the top five on the individual leaderboard.
The Blue Raiders earned their fourth match play berth since C-USA adopted the format for the 2014-15 season. MTSU has never lost a match play match in the C-USA Tournament and will look for its fourth team title in the last five tournaments Thursday.
Stamper carded a 73 (+1) Wednesday, going 2-under over his final 11 holes of the day. He finished the tournament at 216 (E), two strokes behind LA Tech's James Swash.
Jegers birdied three holes on his way to a 73 (+1) in Wednesday's third round. His 54-hole score of 218 (+2) tied him for fourth place individually.
Carter Maneth was the Blue Raiders' low man Wednesday, carding a 71 (-1). Maneth picked up three birdies in the third round one day after replacing the injured Markus Varjun minutes before the start of the second round.
Gavin Clements tied for 13th individually at 220 (+4) after a round of 76 (+4) Wednesday. It was his lowest tournament score since the Blue Raiders' second event of the season and his highest finish of the year by 40 places.
Michael Barnard carded a 76 (+4) in the third round and tied for 27th individually at 226 (+10).
The Blue Raiders will take on No. 3 LA Tech in the first round of match play Thursday. The winner of that match will take on the winner of No. 1 Charlotte and No. 4 UAB for the conference title.

3 – This will be the Blue Raiders' third time entering match play as the No. 2 seed in four match play appearances.
12 – Barnard led MTSU with 12 birdies during stroke play.
5 – All five Blue Raiders birdied the 17th hole Wednesday.
