Blue Raiders drop both in doubleheader at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Middle Tennessee softball dropped both games in a doubleheader at Charlotte today.
Game 1, MTSU 2 – Charlotte 4
Charlotte got ahead early with a leadoff home run to start the game. In the top of the second, Shelby Sargent continued to swing the bat well with another base-hit to give the Blue Raiders their first baserunner.
In the second inning, Charlotte hit another home run this time for three runs. The Blue Raiders had an opportunity after a leadoff single by Ansley Blevins in the top of the third inning but nothing to show for it.
Kamryn Carcich slammed the door on Charlotte in the fourth inning with a strikeout that left two runners on-base to keep the 49ers lead at four. The Blue Raiders came up empty again in the top of fifth after base-hits by Shelby Echols and Laura Mealer.
Amaya Harris started off the seventh inning with a single and moved to second off another single from Laura Mealer. The Blue Raiders cut the lead in half after an RBI single from Anyce Harvey.
The late game rally came up short and MTSU dropped game one 4-2.
Game 2, MTSU 5 – Charlotte 9
Shelby Echols started off the top of the first with a single to give the Blue Raiders an early baserunner. The 49ers had their share of baserunners as well in the first inning and a three-run home run.
Shelby Sargent recorded another hit in the top of the second to extend her hitting streak to four games. Ansley Blevins then delivered the two-run home run to cut the lead in half going into the third inning.
Laura Mealer then tied the game up in the third inning with a home run of her own. Mealer's two-run home run to center field is her seventh of the season and caused Charlotte to make a change in the circle.
The 49ers threatened to take the lead in the bottom of the third with two outs after a double off the wall. Kamryn Carcich was able to get out of the inning scoreless leaving two runners on-base.
Charlotte took over the lead in the bottom of the fourth after a double off the wall and a RBI single. Later on in the inning, the 49ers hit another home run to add two more and extend its lead to three. The Blue Raiders answered with a run of their own in the top of the fifth off a RBI single from Anyce Harvey.
In the bottom of the sixth, Charlotte's Lexi Winter's hit her third home run of the game for her seventh RBI and to extend the 49ers lead to 9-5.
