Blue Raiders Unable to Overcome Early Deficit
8/31/2023 9:54:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer's Manon Lebargy had a first half brace Thursday night against the Lipscomb Bisons, but the Blue Raiders were unable to get any closer after conceding four early goals to the visitors. MTSU moved to 2-2-1 on the season with the 4-2 loss at Dean A. Hayes Stadium.
Lipscomb scored twice inside five minutes, and added additional tallies in the 19' and 26.'
Lebargy found the net off a deflection in the 33' to get the Blue Raiders on the scoresheet. Less than three minutes later in the 36' the Lille, France native finished a set piece from Kaitlyn Butcher to cut the margin to two goals.
MTSU threatened cut further into the margin right after halftime on a Cambell Kivisto breakaway, but Lipscomb goalkeeper Sara Kile made one of her five saves to keep the match 4-2.
The Blue Raiders more than doubled the Bisons in second half shots, 9-4, and outshot the visitors 16-9 Thursday night. MTSU also had a 7-5 advantage in shots on target.
Rhoden's Roundup
"[Going down 4-0 in the first half] is not a position we've been in before. But I think that being able to come back and get two goals, and still being able to outshoot them shows the collective fight and spirit. Now we must make sure that fight and spirit is there in longer moments of the game, and not just in 15 or 20-minute blocks. We learn from this, and we move on," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
By the Numbers
2: Lebargy is the first Blue Raider to have two goals in a match since Kirstine Lykke against Marshall in 2021.
16: MTSU's 16 shots are the most in a match this season.
9: The Blue Raiders won nine corners, which is also a season-high.
3: Eleanor Gough, Faith Adje, Kivisto and Lebargy shared the game-high of three shots.
