Blue Raiders Fall at New Mexico State
9/24/2023 10:13:00 PM | Women's Soccer
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Middle Tennessee Soccer scored twice on set pieces Sunday night against the New Mexico State Aggies. But the Blue Raiders conceded on a set piece in the 66' and would fall 3-2 in the Conference USA road fixture.
It was a back-and-forth affair which MTSU would ultimately fall just one goal short in. Less than one minute after the Aggies drew first blood in the 38', the Blue Raiders connected on a corner kick, with Sascha Nielsen finishing the opportunity in the box.
Jessica Oliveras would answer a 47' Aggie tally with her first career goal in the 51', with a header to finish a free kick.
For Nielsen, the goal was her first of the season, while Oliveras found the back of the net for the first time in her career.
Rhoden's Roundup
"Tonight we played a good New Mexico State team, and I think we went toe-to-toe with them. We put ourselves in position to win the game on the road or at least get a point. We lost concentration at key moments of the game that led to a set piece and led to two goals. That is something we must make sure we clean up," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
By the Numbers
6: Goalkeeper Hannah Suder's six saves are the second-most recorded by the graduate student this year.
2: Lauren Spaanstra had an assist on both goals. It was her second multi-assist match as a Blue Raider.
9: Manon Lebargy logged her team-leading ninth point of 2023, with an assist Sunday night.
Next Up
The Blue Raiders will return home for a three-match homestand in Murfreesboro.
MTSU is next in action Friday for a non-conference fixture against Chicago State. First touch is slated for 7:00 p.m. League matches follow against Sam Houston and UTEP on Oct. 8 and 12.
