Softball splits day one of The Spring Games

Game 1 – MTSU 4, Butler 8
The Blue Raiders jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the top of the first off a three-run homerun from Lexi Medlock. The first homerun of Medlock's career. The Bulldogs answered back in the bottom half with two runs.
MTSU added another run in the second inning on a solo homerun from Shelby Sargent.
Butler added six runs in the third inning on a three-run homerun to take the 8-4 lead.
After three scoreless innings, MTSU started the seventh inning with back-to-back singles from Riley Gilmore and Sargent. Amaya Harris delivered one RBI along with Julia Garcia to trim the lead to just two runs.
The Blue Raiders comeback effort came up short falling to 0-10 on the season.
Mary Martinez started in the circle throwing 2.0 innings and allowing four earned runs. Kamryn Carcich entered the game and threw the remaining 4.0 innings giving up three earned runs.
Game 2 – MTSU 10, Cornell 9
Cornell scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run homerun to jump out to an early lead. MTSU answered in the bottom half with a single from Shelby Echols who stole two bases and came in to score on a wild pitch.
Cornell threatened to add to their lead in the second inning with bases-loaded, but Keri Munn was able to leave the runners stranded keeping the score at 2-1.
The Blue Raiders put up three runs in the second off a two-run single from Echols. Sargent also came in to score on a throwing error giving MTSU a 4-2 advantage.
A single from Sargent in the fourth loaded the bases bringing up the top of the lineup. Echols delivered her third RBI of the game followed by a two-run single from Savannah Behabetz to increase the lead 7-2.
A five-run fifth inning by Cornell gave them the 9-7 lead. The Blue Raiders answered with two runs to even the game headed into the seventh. Medlock delivered a two-run single that scored Ashlee Jacoway and Blevins.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sargent and Echols both singled to allow Amaya Harris to get the game winning RBI for MTSU's first win of the 2024 season.
Munn threw 5.0 innings in her first appearance and start of the season before Carcich took over for the final two innings to get the win.
