Softball opens the 2024 season in Sacramento

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball will be in Sacramento, CA from Feb. 9-11 to play five games in a tournament hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis.
The Blue Raiders will start the competition on Friday against UC Davis and Saint Mary's. The first game will begin at 11:30 a.m. CT with the second game to follow at 4:30 p.m. CT. Saturday, MTSU will face Cal Poly and Sacramento State. Game one starts at 11:30 a.m. CT and the second is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT. Wrapping up the first weekend of games for the Blue Raiders is a single game on Sunday against San Jose State with first pitch slated for 11:30 a.m. CT.

Series History
This is the first ever meeting between MTSU and UC Davis. The Blue Raiders have only met Saint Mary's twice with the series even at one a piece. MTSU trails each of the series with Cal Poly, Sacramento State and San Jose State.
Scouting the Competition
UC Davis finished last season with a 29-22 record and 15-12 record in the Big West Conference. Saint Mary's out of the West Coast Conference had its first 20-win season in seven years. In 2023, Saint Mary's finished 20-29 and 9-6 in conference play.
Cal Poly closed out the 2023 season at 19-23 and 12-15 in conference play with 10 returning starters in 2024. Sacramento State finished last season with a 27-20 overall record and 10-5 league mark. The Hornets were co-Big Sky regular season champions, sharing the title with Idaho State.
San Jose State ended last season with a 27-30 record and 11-11 record in the Mountain West Conference.
