Blue Raiders drop both games on Opening Day

DAVIS, Calif. – Middle Tennessee softball (0-2) dropped both games on opening day with a 4-3 loss to UC Davis and an 8-2 loss to Saint Mary's to start the 2024 season.
Game 1 – MTSU 3, UC Davis 4
The Blue Raiders jumped out to an early lead with two third inning runs. Anyce Harvey and Julia Garcia both picked up their first RBI of the season. UC Davis evened the score at two a piece in the bottom of the fourth.
Amaya Harris doubled to start the sixth inning, followed by an Ava Brooks single to put the Blue Raiders back on top by a run. Harris and Shelby Echols led the team offensively with four of the teams nine hits.
UC Davis scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a bases loaded single to get the win.
Kamryn Carcich threw a complete game in the season opener with two runs on six hits and 3 strikeouts against the Aggies.
Game 2 – MTSU 2, Saint Mary's 8
The Blue Raiders started off game two with two first inning runs. Shelby Sargent delivered the first with a double that scored Echols. Savannah Behabetz added to the lead driving in Sargent with a single.
In the fourth inning, Saint Mary's answered with four runs to take the lead and cause the Blue Raiders to make a pitching change. The Gaels added another run in the fifth and two in the sixth to extend the lead 7-2.
Jesyne Espinal made her college debut starting in the circle for the Blue Raiders. She went 3.1 innings and allowed two earned-runs. Claire Woods also saw action in the circle throwing 1.1 innings. Mary Martinez finished out the game in her debut for the Blue Raiders.
