DALLAS – Following a perfect 16-0 undefeated Conference USA regular season, Middle Tennessee guard Savannah Wheeler was tabbed CUSA Player of the Year, while center Anastasiia Boldyreva was named CUSA Defensive Player of the Year and five Lady Raiders earned All-Conference honors, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Wheeler, a graduate from Catlettsburg, Kentucky becomes just the ninth Lady Raider overall to be named conference player of the year and the third to be named CUSA Player of the Year. The guard has been sensational this season, leading the league in scoring (17.5 ppg), assists (150), assist/turnover ratio (2.1), and minutes (37.8). Already the CUSA all-time free throw record holder, Wheeler also recently cracked into the top three on the all-time leader scorers list. The recent graduate and five-time CUSA Player of the week also earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Boldyreva, a junior from Moscow, Russia burst onto the scene this season and established herself as one of the top rim protectors in the nation. She currently leads the league and ranks fourth in the nation with 88 blocks on the season – a Lady Raider single-season record. The junior also earned First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team honors. She has played a crucial part in the Lady Raiders having a top 10 defense nationally. MTSU is currently holding opponents to just 51.8 points per game and scoring 75.1 for an average scoring margin of 23.3.
Courtney Whitson, a graduate from Kingsport, Tennessee earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Whitson has been synonymous with Lady Raider basketball in her five seasons in Murfreesboro and has earned her reputation as one of the hardest-working MTSU student-athletes both on the court and in the classroom. The forward is the program's all-time leading three-point scorer and also ranks first all-time in minutes played in program history. She is one of just two Lady Raiders to record 1,500 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
Jalynn Gregory, a junior from Lafayette, Tennessee earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Gregory has served as the top sharpshooter in CUSA for a second consecutive season, while also earning a name for herself as one of the toughest perimeter defenders in the league. The junior is averaging 12.4 points per game. She has made a league-best 82 three-point field goals on the season, shooting a league-high 36.1 percent from beyond the arc, all while guarding the opponent's top perimeter player.
Ta'Mia Scott, a sophomore from Clarksville, Tennessee earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Scott has improved immensely from last season, starting all 30 games and is averaging 12.5 points per game (eighth in the league) and 5.5 rebounds per game. She also ranks sixth in the league in blocks with 31 in CUSA play – the highest-ranked guard.
