Blue Raiders head to third round in striking distance

STATESBORO, Ga. — Middle Tennessee men's golf is in third place heading into the third round of the Schenkel Invitational, three strokes off the lead. The Blue Raiders combined for a team score of 281 (-7) in Saturday's second round at Forest Heights Country Club and sits at 558 (-18) through 306 holes.
Michael Barnard led MTSU with a score of 68 (-4) in the second round. He sits at 138 (-6) after picking up five birdies and an eagle Saturday.
Kevin Jegers is also tied for sixth at 138 (-6) after his second straight round of 69 (-3) Saturday. He birdied six holes to bring his total to 11 for the tournament.
Markus Varjun shot a 70 (-2) Saturday and enters the third round tied for 27th at 142 (-2). He birdied three of his final six holes on the day, picking up five total.
Owen Stamper is tied for 16th at 140 (-4) after a round of 74 (+2) Saturday. Luke Perkins rounds out the lineup in a tie for 62nd at 148 (+4).

281 – MTSU tied its third-lowest round of the season at 281.
68 – Barnard's 68 was his third-lowest round this season.
7 – Jegers has been at par or better in seven of his last eight rounds.

"Another solid day for us. Great rounds from Michael and Kevin. Always good to be in the top three the last day of a tournament. We'll stick with the same game plan we have had the last two days and see what happens."
