El Paso, Texas – Middle Tennessee softball (11-13) opened conference play with a win on the road at UTEP (14-6) in the conference opener.
Ansley Blevins fourth home run of the season was her biggest yet and would come in the lead off spot of the eighth inning.
"In the moment I 'let go and let God' and I was ready," Blevins said. "I was excited to help our pitchers and my teammates. We have a lot of fight and it really showed tonight."
UTEP started the scoring via a solo shot from cleanup hitter Ajia Richard in the second inning to put the Miners up 1-0.
The Blue Raiders couldn't get anything going through four innings leaving four runners on-base. Senior Shelby Sargent gave MTSU the lead on a two-run home run to right field after Ava Brooks singled to lead off the fifth inning.
A sixth inning that featured two hits and an error by the Miners would extend the lead to 3-1. Blevins singled to start the inning and Bryanna Coffman who pinch ran would score on a double by Claire Czajkowski.
The Miners would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extras. Blevins started the eighth inning with a solo home run to center field that put MTSU on top 4-3. Her fourth home run of the season to lead the team.
