Softball homers three times in Wednesday’s win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball (18-24, 5-10) hit three home runs on Wednesday night to win at Lipscomb (15-24, 4-8).
Lipscomb starter, Laine Barefoot came into Wednesday's game with a 5-9 record. In the top of the first, she would retire the Blue Raiders in order.
Claire Woods would start in the circle for MTSU with a 2-4 record. She left two Bison runners on-base to keep the game tied after one.
The first hit of the game would come on a two-out double by Shelby Sargent in the top of the third. The Blue Raiders were unable to capitalize and headed into the bottom half of the inning still tied at zero.
A pair of walks and an error by the Blue Raider defense would lead to a two-run third inning for the Bison.
Kamryn Carcich would take over for Woods in the circle to close out the third inning.
Lipscomb extended the lead with another run in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 advantage.
MTSU got a run back to start the fifth inning on a solo home run by Lexi Medlock. Medlock's fifth home run of the season would be the first Blue Raider run of the game.
A three-run sixth inning gave MTSU a late-game lead at Lipscomb. Shelby Echols picked up her conference leading 46th hit of the season to start off the inning. Echols would come in to score on a two-run home run by Ansley Blevins. Ava Tepe then delivered the third home run of the game for MTSU with a solo shot to put the Blue Raiders up 4-3.
Mary Martinez came into the circle for Carcich in the seventh inning with two runners on-base. Martinez would close the game out and pick up her team leading, second save.
Offensively, Blevins led the way with one hit, two RBI and a run scored. Echols, Tepe and Medlock would also contribute with one hit apiece. Sargent was 2-3 at the plate with a double in the third inning for MTSU's first hit of the game.
MTSU has hit 40 home runs as a team this season just one shy of the single-season program record.
