HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Middle Tennessee dropped the series opener to Sam Houston 4-3 on Friday evening at Don Sanders Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (13-24, 4-9 CUSA) struck first in the top of the second on a Trace Phillips two-run shot to left field, his ninth home run of the season, however, the Bearkats (22-16, 5-8 CUSA) responded with a trio of runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead.

In the seventh inning, MTSU knotted things up at three runs apiece after Eston Snider roped an RBI triple to left-center field, but Sam Houston would respond with a run in the bottom of the frame to regain a one-run lead.

On the mound, James Sells (3-6) was tabbed with the loss, while Wyatt Tucker (3-1) earned the win for the Bearkats and Chandler David picked up his sixth save of the season.

By the Numbers
3: Eston Snider logged three hits on the day, a single, double and triple. The junior was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
2: Trace Phillips recorded a two-run home run in the second inning today. His ninth home run of the season.
