Blue Raiders drop game two on Saturday at WKU

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball (19-29, 5-15) dropped Saturday's game at Western Kentucky (27-16-1, 12-5) 4-2.
Saturday's game started with a base-hit from Shelby Echols in the leadoff spot for the Blue Raiders. Her 53rd hit of the season to lead Conference USA.
MTSU would strand the bases loaded in the top of the first inning.
Claire Woods made her eighth start of the season in game two of the series. She allowed just two earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.
WKU took an early lead to start the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Cheyanne Sales would deliver the two-out RBI double to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
A scoreless second inning for the Blue Raiders kept WKU in front by a run. Woods would retire the Hilltoppers in order in the bottom of the second.
Claire Czajkowski gave MTSU the lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run home run. Her first home run of the season and third RBI of the series against WKU. The Murfreesboro native's home run on Saturday was the teams' 43rd of the year.
The Hilltoppers tried to answer immediately in the bottom half of the inning, but Woods was able to get out of the inning scoreless and hold onto the lead.
The fourth frame was scoreless for both sides to keep the game in favor of MTSU 2-1.
WKU would tie the game with a run in the fifth inning on a RBI double from Taylor Sanders. Mary Martinez took over for Woods to get out of the fifth inning and limit the damage.
The Hilltoppers scored two go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of RBI singles from the top of their lineup.
MTSU was unable to start a rally in the seventh inning and would drop game two on Saturday.
Offensively, Echols led the way with two hits on Saturday for 54 total on the year to lead the league. Sargent also added two hits in game two of the series at WKU. Czajkowski contributed a two-run home run in the third inning that gave MTSU the lead.
