Blue Raiders in second after first round of CUSA Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. – Luke Perkins tied his career low with a round of 69 to open the Conference USA Championship on Monday as Middle Tennessee men's golf finished the first round of stroke play in second place. The Blue Raiders combined for a score of 287 (-1) to finish the day five strokes ahead of fifth place, positioning itself to make the cut for match play.
Perkins enters the second round tied for third place individually, one stroke off the lead. He picked up birdies on two of his first three holes and each of his last two, finishing the round with five in all.
Michael Barnard carded a 72 (E) to join Perkins in the top 10. He made two birdies and two bogeys as he wrapped up the day tied for eighth.
Owen Stamper and Markus Varjun are tied for 13th at 73 (+1) heading into the second round. Three of Stamper's four birdies came on the back nine. Varjun birdied two of his first seven holes of the day.
Kevin Jegers is tied for 33rd at 76 (+4).
By the Numbers
69 – Perkins matched his career low for the fourth time in his last five tournaments.
18 – MTSU recorded its 18th round at par or better on the season.
15 – The Blue Raiders' 15 birdies are the second-most in the field.

- The Bulldogs' Lake Juban and WKU's Luke Fuller are tied for the individual lead at 68 (-4).
