MURFREESBORO, TENN – Middle Tennessee dropped both games to 25th-ranked Dallas Baptist on Thursday's double-header at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
Game One
The Blue Raiders (19-33, 7-15 C-USA) allowed nine runs in the first inning to the Patriots (39-12, 16-6 C-USA) in the first game of the afternoon, and that was enough for Dallas Baptist to cruise to a 15-1 win in seven innings.
Trace Phillips added on to his stellar freshman year campaign with his 13th home run of the year with a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning.
On the mound, Cole Torbett (0-4) was tabbed with the loss, while Ryan Johnson (10-2) earned the win for the Patriots
Game Two
The Patriots (40-12, 17-6 C-USA) struck first, plating a run in the third inning and a pair of runs in the second. The Blue Raiders (19-34, 5-16 C-USA) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth and trailed 3-1 heading into the fifth.
It was at the halfway point where both offenses busted the game open. DBU started off the inning with a four spot, off of a three-run home run and an RBI single. MTSU responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on a pair of wild pitches and an error by the Patriots.
In the sixth, DBU would tack on to their lead plating two runs on a solo homer and RBI single. MTSU answered with a run of their own, thanks to a Cale Vinson RBI single, however, the Patriots would push across six more runs in the final innings to take the game 15-6.
On the mound, Patrick Johnson (3-3) was tabbed with the loss, while Jerrod Jenkins (6-0) earned the win for the DBU.
