MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee men's tennis welcomes three student-athletes Rotislav Halfinger, Sacha Grandvincent and Gabe Getz for the 2024-25 season announced by head coach Jimmy Borendame.
"These three guys are all huge pieces and will help our culture stay strong moving forward," said Coach Borendame. "I believe we are all excited to work together and strive for more next season. Each guy is a high performing student in the classroom and each knows we set high expectations and goals for ourselves on and off the court. I am already looking forward to the Fall."
Rostislav Halfinger, a native of Weilburg, Germany, transfers to the Blue Raiders from the University of South Alabama after completing his junior season with the Jaguars. His first two seasons was spent at South Carolina State University.
During his first two seasons at South Carolina State, Rostislav tallied 23 singles and 22 doubles wins. In 2022, he was named MEAC Player and Rookie of the Year. Halfinger helped the Bulldogs earn back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament by winning the MEAC tournament championship.
Last season at South Alabama, Halfinger picked up 12 singles and 14 doubles victories.
"I am excited to join Middle Tennessee State University," said Halfinger. "I hope we are going to win many matches next year together!"
Before his time at South Carolina State, Rostislav attended Specialized School 9 "Zerde" in Astana, Kazakhstan. Halfinger had an ITF ranking of No. 70 and won four ITF singles championships. He was a finalist of the doubles tournament in Egypt 15k.
Sacha Grandvincent, a native from Champvans, France, transfers to the Blue Raiders after one season at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Grandvincent earned eight doubles wins all on court No. 1 including victories over DePaul, No. 56 Charlotte and South Florida.
"I am excited to play for this team," said Grandvincent. "The project at MTSU is intriguing."
Before Louisiana, Rostislav attended CNED in Rouen, France.
Gabe Getz, a Tennessee native, joins the Blue Raiders from The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn. Getz is a four-time TSSAA Tennis Team Champion and won the TSSAA Doubles Championships in 2021. In 2022, The McCallie School was UTR No. 1 ranked high school in the country. Gabe earned the USTA Tennessee Sportsmanship Award in 2023.
"I would like to say that I'm looking forward to joining the team not because it's going to be easy but because it's going to be hard and its going to be challenging," Getz said. "From what I've seen, I can tell that the environment of the team and coaches is focused on improving its players and that's exactly what I want."
