Kiplagat Finishes 10th at Gans Creek Invitational to Lead Blue Raiders

COLUMBIA, MO. - The Middle Tennessee Cross Country teams competed in the Gans Creek Invitational this morning, finishing 15th and 19th out of 38 teams.
The men started out the morning with their 8k race finishing 15 out of 38 teams from across the country. Freshman Allan Kiplagat led the Blue Raiders with a 10th place finish, his third of the season thus far, along with a 23:24.0 final time. Last week's Conference USA Athlete of the Week, Brian Kiptoo, finished with a 27th-place finish out of 320 total runners with a time of 23:46.5. Jacinto Gaspar, Carmelo Cannizzaro and Sammy Sang rounded out the top five for the Blue Raiders, placing 99th, 160th and 234th, respectively.
The women fought for 19th out of 38 teams in the 6k. The reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Week, Odilia Jepchumba, finished in 21st with a time of 20:31.0. Sandra Maiyo, Eleanor Towe, Nancy Maiyo and Hailee Gorham finished out the remainder of the field for the Blue Raiders with 58th, 120th, 195th and 246th placed finishes.

"Both teams improved a lot from two weeks ago. We are showing great improvement as we head into the last month of training before our championships."

Next Up
The Blue Raiders will travel to College Station, Texas to compete in the Arturo Barrios Invitational at Texas A&M on October 18th. This will be the last regular season meet for MTSU before the Conference USA Championship on November 2nd in Huntsville, Ala.
