MTSU rounds out successful first day at the Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Track & Field had a very successful first day of the Vanderbilt Invitational that saw three Blue Raiders medal, four personal records set, and one school record broken.
In the last event of the evening and in his first meet as a Blue Raider, Mackdonald Songok broke the program record in the Men's 1000m race with a time of 2:23.59. On the women's side of the event, Hailee Gorham set a new personal record with a time of 3:06.67 beating her previous mark by over six seconds.
The Blue Raiders had great success in the Men's and Women's Distance Medley races with the men taking home first place and then women securing third. A team of Sammy Sang, Wail Bourahli, Carmelo Cannizzaro and Allan Kiplagat recorded a time of 9:57.52 to take home the gold. The women finished with a time of 11:44.51 with a team of Odilia Jepchumba, Bridgett Annan, Privillege Chikara and Faith Nyathi.
In the men's 200m dash, sophomore John Sherman took home the silver medal with a time of 21.41 seconds. Sherman set a new personal best with that time narrowly beating his previous best of 21.44 seconds.
Roland McGhee Jr. set a personal best in the Men's Long Jump with a mark of 7.34 meters. The sophomore destroyed his previous best by nearly half a meter with the previous mark being 6.85 meters.

Middle Tennessee Track & Field will compete in day two of the Vanderbilt Invitational tomorrow, Jan. 18, with the first event a Blue Raider is competing in set to begin at 11:45 am.
