NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee State women's tennis team fell to Vanderbilt 7-0 in the first of two matches in Nashville.
The Blue Raiders dropped the doubles point early, losing on all three courts. On Court 1, Eloise Swarbrick and Pena Peyer put up a fight but fell 6-3 to Vadny pairing Sophia Webster and Celia-Belle Mohr.
In singles action, Rutuja Chaphalkar secured the lone win for MTSU, taking her match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, on Court 6. Despite strong moments against a highly ranked Vanderbilt team, the Blue Raiders will look to regroup ahead of their matchup with Lipscomb.
Coach Tayo's Thoughts
"We had a good match today against one of the top teams in the nation. It was nice to get the win at No. 6 singles with Rutuja, which is possibly our first match win against Vandy. We played solid, and it was a good chance to see how we measure up against a really good team. We are motivated for tomorrow's match against Lipscomb."
