MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Savannah Davis, a sophomore guard from Mackenzie, Tennessee, has quickly established herself as a promising talent for the MTSU women's college basketball program. Growing up in a small, tight-knit community just 2.5 hours from Murfreesboro, Savannah's journey has been shaped by unwavering support from family, friends, and community — a support system that continues to fuel her drive both on and off the court.
From an early age, basketball was a part of Savannah's life. One of her earliest memories involves picking up a basketball at her grandmother's house and falling in love with the game. Inspired by her older sister Shelby, whom she admires greatly, Savannah aspired not only to emulate her sister's skill on the court but also her character and leadership off the court.
A dominant player at Mackenzie High School, Savannah helped lead her team to two state championships. Twice honored as Tennessee Miss Basketball in 2022 and 2024, she also set a new state single-game record for three-pointers with an astounding 17 made against Milan High School on December 19, 2023. Savannah humbly credits this achievement to the trust and support of her high school teammates who consistently passed her the ball.
Choosing to continue her basketball journey at Middle Tennessee State University was a heartfelt decision for Savannah. She was drawn to MTSU because of its family-like atmosphere, which reminded her of the community she grew up in. That sense of belonging and constant encouragement from the coaching staff and Murfreesboro community has been a major factor in why Savannah remains fully committed to being a Blue Raider every day.
Understanding the weight of representing not just a team but a legacy, Savannah embraces the responsibility that comes with wearing the blue and white. She recognizes the blueprint created by Head Coach Rick Insell over the last two decades and is determined to contribute to it meaningfully. Savannah has stepped into a leadership role this season, inspired by the seniors she learned from last year. Her goal is to be a vocal leader and mentor, guiding the younger players just as she was guided.
Both Head Coach Rick Insell and Associate Coach Matt Insell push Savannah to grow into the best version of herself — equally as an athlete and as a person. She is keenly aware of the privilege it is to play at MTSU on a scholarship, a responsibility she does not take lightly. The history of successful players before her are a steady reminder of how enriched in prosperity the program is and will continue to be.
In her freshman debut season, Savannah played in 34-35 games, already making her presence felt as a dependable guard for the Blue Raiders. With her talent, leadership, and community-driven heart, Savannah Davis is poised to make a lasting impact on MTSU women's basketball for years to come.
