Blue Raiders Welcome New Mexico, South Alabama, and Utah for the Battle in the 'Boro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders are set to host three teams for the Battle in the 'Boro this weekend.
South Alabama, New Mexico, and Utah will travel to Murfreesboro to compete against the Blue Raiders and each other. Matches begin Friday and conclude Sunday, with two matches per day featuring all teams, each playing one another once.
Middle Tennessee will face Utah on Friday, New Mexico on Saturday, and South Alabama on Sunday to close out the weekend.
Friday vs. Utah
To kick off the weekend, the Blue Raiders will take on Utah in what will be just the second meeting between the two programs. The first matchup came during the 2019 ITA Kickoff Weekend, where Utah defeated Middle Tennessee 4-0.
Utah enters the weekend with a 6-2 record, coming off a 4-2 loss to LMU last weekend. The Utes have a notable win over a Top 25 opponent this season, defeating Arizona State 4-3. A key player to watch is Reid Jarvis, who holds a 6-0 singles record this season.
Middle Tennessee and Utah will square off Friday at 5 p.m.
Saturday vs. New Mexico
On Saturday, the Blue Raiders will face New Mexico. The Lobos lead the all-time series 2-1, but Middle Tennessee won the most recent matchup, sweeping New Mexico 4-0 in 2020.
New Mexico enters the weekend with a 3-3 record, coming off a 4-3 win over Portland. Before facing the Blue Raiders, the Lobos will open their weekend against South Alabama and will close out against Utah.
First serve is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Sunday vs. South Alabama
Middle Tennessee will wrap up the Battle in the 'Boro against South Alabama on Sunday. The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series 8-6, though the Jaguars claimed a 4-3 victory in their last meeting in 2019.
South Alabama enters the weekend with a 2-5 record, with wins over Tulane and Southern. The Jaguars most recently fell 4-2 to Jacksonville State on Feb. 9. Before facing the Blue Raiders, they will take on New Mexico and Utah.
The match is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m.
Weather permitting, all matches will be held at the MTSU Outdoor Tennis Center. If temperatures drop below 50 degrees, matches will move to the Adams Tennis Complex, per ITA weather regulations..
