MTSU suffer defeats to Mercer and UConn

Blue Raiders offensive struggles continue
MACON, Ga. — Middle Tennessee softball was defeated by Mercer and UConn on Friday, February 21. The score of the Mercer game was 8-1 and the score of the UConn game was 6-1.
The Blue Raiders (3-9, 0-0) offensive struggles from the previous weekend continued in the two games to begin the Mercer Tournament. In the first game of the day, the Blue Raiders recorded more errors than hits in the loss to the Mercer Bears (7-4, 0-0). In the second inning, Addy Edgmon drove in Avery Wynne on an RBI-single for the Blue Raiders lone run. Ava Brooks and Macie Harter had the other two hits for the Blue Raiders. Leila Ammon gave up one run with two strikeouts in two innings of relief for MTSU.
In the Blue Raiders defeat to UConn (6-4, 0-0), the Blue Raiders recorded three hits with two of them coming from Addy Edgmon and the other one from Avery Wynne. Edgmon opened the game with a leadoff triple and was driven in by Macie Harter on a sacrifice hit the following at bat for the Blue Raiders. Two more Blue Raiders reached base safely via walks in Ava Brooks and Macie Harter. Mary Martinez threw a complete game while giving up four earned runs and striking out four Huskies.

Day two of the Mercer Tournament will take place tomorrow, Feb. 22, from Sikes Field in Macon, Ga. The Blue Raiders will be taking on Jacksonville at 9:00 am CT and Alabama State at 2:00 pm CT.
