MTSU defeats Alabama State on a three-run walk-off home run
The Blue Raiders (4-10, 0-0) and Hornets (0-13, 0-0) fought in a back-and-forth battle featuring four lead changes. Alabama State struck first with a sacrifice fly to take an early lead, but MTSU responded with a two-run single from Ava Tepe, followed by a sacrifice hit from Jana Want to put the Blue Raiders ahead 3-1.
The Hornets answered with a two-run home run to even up the score before Ansley Blevins hit a two-run shot to give the Blue Raiders the lead. Alabama State then put up four runs to take a 7-5 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh. That's when Medlock stepped up, blasting a three-run, walk-off home run to seal the win for the Blue Raiders.
The walk-off marked Middle Tennessee's first since March 2024. It was Medlock's seventh career home run and her first of the season. The Murfreesboro native also added a double to her stat line.
Addy Edgmon recorded a triple in the bottom of the fourth inning, her second of the Mercer Tournament. Across both games, Ava Brooks collected three hits, including a solo home run in the first game, and scored four runs for the Blue Raiders. In relief, Mary Martinez delivered 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out four batters to earn the win.
Reflecting on her game-winning homer, Medlock said: "It was such a fun moment because we really wanted to win this game as a team. My teammates and I talked before the game about taking it inning by inning, and that's exactly what we did."
