MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders are heading west for two matches against ranked opponents, No. 28 Pepperdine and No. 7 San Diego.
Middle Tennessee had a short break after its Northeast trip to face Princeton and Harvard nearly a week and a half ago. The Blue Raiders fell short in both matches but are looking to make a statement on the West Coast.
Battling the Waves
Wednesday's match will mark the first-ever meeting between Middle Tennessee and Pepperdine. The Waves are a strong team looking to break back into the top 25, with wins over Arizona State, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt defeating the Commodores 5-1 this past Sunday.
Top players for the Waves include No. 69 Edward Winter and No. 47 Max Homberg, who will anchor the top singles spots against the Blue Raiders. Linus Carlsson Halldin, who is tied for the most wins on the team, enters the match on a two-match winning streak. In doubles, Carlsson Halldin and Homberg are ranked No. 72 by the ITA.
The match is set for Wednesday at 3 p.m. CST in Malibu, California.
Taking on No. 7 San Diego
After facing Pepperdine, the Blue Raiders will travel three hours south to San Diego to take on the No. 7 Toreros, one of the nation's top teams this season. San Diego boasts a 14-2 record with wins over multiple top-15 opponents, including Florida State, Duke, and Arizona. The Toreros are coming off a dominant performance at the Ed Collins Invitational, where they swept UC San Diego, Old Dominion, and UC Santa Barbara.
San Diego features several ranked players in the latest ITA rankings. Oliver Tarvet leads the team at No. 8, followed by No. 52 Savriyan Danilov and No. 114 Stian Klaassen. In doubles, Tarvet and Klaassen hold the No. 2 national ranking with a 13-3 record this season.
The match is scheduled for Thursday, March 13, at 2 p.m. CST.
