Blue Raiders Drop CUSA Opener vs. Liberty 4-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Blue Raiders opened Conference USA play with a 4-1 loss to Liberty.
In doubles, the Flames secured back-to-back wins on courts one and three to clinch the doubles point. Daniella O'Niell and Maria Turchetto defeated Middle Tennessee's Lena Peyer and Eloise Swarbrick 6-2. The clinching victory came from Yu-Yun Chen and Celina Joseph, who topped Ilaria Sposetti and Cassidy Mataia.
Cassidy Mataia earned the Blue Raiders' lone win on court four, tying the match 1-1. Mataia defeated Liberty's Turchetto in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, marking her seventh win of the season. However, the Flames responded with victories on courts two and six to extend their lead to 3-1.
Liberty then clinched the match with a win on court three, as O'Niell defeated MTSU's Sara Conde 6-4, 6-4, securing a 4-1 victory for the Flames.
