Blue Raiders traveling to Miami for first Conference USA matchup of season

MTSU taking on FIU Friday-Sunday
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Softball is taking a trip to Miami, Fla. for their first Conference USA games of the season vs. FIU. The games are set for Friday, March 7 at 5:00 pm CT, Saturday, March 8 at 5:00 pm CT, and Sunday, March 9 at 12:00 pm CT. The games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be found at Stat Broadcast.
The Blue Raiders are coming off a very successful weekend where they finished with a 4-0 record at Blue Raider Softball Field. It gave MTSU the best start at home to open a season in the Breeden Era with four straight wins. The wins also made head coach Jeff Breeden the winningest head coach in the program's 33 years with 280 career wins. Leila Ammon and Ansley Blevins each took Conference USA weekly awards with Ammon winning Freshman of the Week and Blevins winning Player of the Week.
Leila Ammon pitched 12.2 innings with nine strikeouts and just one earned run over three appearances, good for a 0.55 ERA. The Gulf Breeze, Fla. native dominated Illinois State, throwing a complete game while allowing just one run and a new single-game, team-high of six strikeouts. In her final outing of the week, the freshman entered the game in the seventh inning vs. Ball State with a 4-3 lead and shut the door for her first career save.
Ansley Blevins recorded a .500 batting average, .625 on-base percentage, and a 1.000 slugging percentage, good for a 1.625 OPS. Blevins smashed two home runs, including a walk-off homer to give the Blue Raiders the win vs. Illinois State. The Preseason All-Conference member got on-base at least twice in all five of MTSU's games and was crucial to the 4-1 week.
Scouting the opponents
FIU – FIU enters the series on a 10-game win streak and an overall record of 17-7, including 13-3 at home. The Blue Raiders have a 24-51 record vs. the Panthers, but have won seven of the last 10 matchups. FIU is led by head coach Mike Larabee who is in his fourth season with the program. Larabee has 81 career wins in his career at FIU. The Panthers offense is led by Collier Peaden and Kally Meredith who both have a batting average over .390 and a combined 33 steals. The pitching staff is led by Brooke McNichols who carries a 1.63 ERA and a 6-1 record.
