MTSU falls to FIU in extra innings

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee softball was defeated by FIU 6-5 in eight innings.

The Blue Raiders (8-13, 0-1) jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on a two-run home run from Julia Garcia. The lead did not last long as the Panthers (18-7, 1-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the inning.

In the third inning, a solo home run by the FIU offense gave them a 4-2 lead. The Middle Tennessee offense struggled to put more runs on the board for much of the game, leaving 10 runners left on base. That was until a two-out, RBI-triple from Addy Edgmon which cut the lead to one.

Continuing her monster day, Garcia hit a go-ahead, two-run home run to give the Blue Raiders the lead in the top of the seventh inning. The last time a Blue Raider recorded a multi-home run game was Ansley Blevins, against FIU a season ago. Garcia finished the day batting 3-4 with four RBIs. The Panthers hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning before ending the game on another solo home run in the eighth inning. MTSU falls to 0-3 in games that go to extra innings.

Freshman Jana Want had a great game, batting 2-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Ansley Blevins finished the game 2-3 with one double. Macie Harter batted 2-5 with two doubles while Lexi Medlock finished 2-4 with a double.

By the Numbers

3: Addy Edgmon recorded her third triple of the season, moving her into a share for the lead in Conference USA and 16th in the nation.
11: 11 of MTSU's 21 games have been decided by one run, with the Blue Raiders winning five of them.
.355: Jana Want raised her batting average to .355 which ranks 14th in CUSA.
