Blue Raiders fall to Panthers in series finale

MTSU defeated despite Edgmon’s two home runs
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee softball fell to the FIU Panthers by a score of 7-4 in the series finale on Sunday, March 9.
The Blue Raiders (9-14, 1-2) offense started out hot with Addy Edgmon hitting a leadoff home run to begin the game. Macie Harter followed with a single, before Jana Want hit a home run of her own to give Middle Tennessee an early 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, the Panthers (19-8, 2-1) scored two runs before scoring four in the third inning to bring the score to 6-3. Addy Edgmon hit a second home run in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to two, but that was all the offense MTSU had left in them. Edgmon finished the game with three hits and it was the first multi-home run game of her career.
FIU scored one more run in the sixth inning, which ended up being the final run in the 7-4 ballgame.
In the three-game series at FIU, freshman Jana Want went nuclear batting for a .700 average and a 1.200 slugging percentage, good for a 1.969 OPS. The freshman recorded seven hits with two doubles, a home run, and three walks. Ansley Blevins also had a terrific series, going for a .500 batting average and a 1.300 slugging percentage, with two home runs and two doubles.

The Blue Raiders will be traveling to Birmingham, Ala. to take on UAB on Tuesday, March 11 with first pitch set for 5:00 pm CT.
