MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team is slated to wrap up its 2024-25 regular season at home this weekend, with a Sunday doubleheader. The first match will kick off at 11 a.m. against Wichita State and the final match of the campaign, versus Tennessee State, will have a first serve time of 5 p.m. Both contests will take place at the MTSU Outdoor Tennis Complex.
The Blue Raiders are coming off a tough 4-1 loss at Louisville Thursday, which saw the team earn the doubles point, but struggle in the singles competition. In their last home match, the Blue Raiders faced off against Eastern Illinois, taking a commanding 7-0 victory on the home courts.
Showdown with the Shockers
Middle Tennessee leads the all-time series against Wichita State, winning three matches to their one. The last time the two teams met was in 2022 in Wichita, a contest that MTSU won 5-0. There is just one home meeting in the all-time series for the Blue Raiders, which the Shockers narrowly took in a 4-3 decision.
WSU owns an 11-11 record on the season and is just 5-7 when on the road. The team has struggled to find consistency down the back stretch of the schedule, unable to string together more than two wins in a row since mid-March. The Shockers' most recent road match saw them fall 4-0 to Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla.
Wichita State boasts a ranked win over No. 67 Charlotte March 16, where the team dropped the doubles point, but managed to come back and secure five singles courts for the 5-2 win at home.
Tussle with the Tigers
Tennessee State owns a 5-11 record on the season, with 3-10 on the road. The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series with the Tigers, 37-6, winning the last match 7-0 in 2024 at home.
The Tigers will travel to Southern Indiana Saturday before heading south to Murfreesboro.
Jonasz Dziopak boasts the best singles record for TSU, winning six dual matches on the season. The junior primarily plays at court one, with a 6-4 record there, though he played at court two against Louisville, with an 0-2 record on the second court.
