LYNCHBURG, Va. — A pitcher's duel took place on Saturday, however Liberty came out on top in the 10th inning 5-4 against the Blue Raiders.
Middle Tennessee (15-15) battled early, but didn't get a baserunner until the fifth inning when the Blue Raiders would get two runs on the board. Brett Vondohlen led off the inning with a single up the middle and would come around to score on a mammoth 444 foot home run from Kenny McKinley to open the scoring for each team.
Drew Horn was on the bump for the Blue Raiders for the first time in three weeks after recovering from an injury. He went five innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five to keep the game scoreless. Colin Kerrigan came into the game in relief and got out of the sixth inning easily. However, Liberty (21-11) ignited their offense in the seventh and put up four runs which would put pressure onto the Raiders.
In the top of the ninth, Vondohlen led off the inning by scorching a line drive over the centerfielders head for a double which was followed up by Clay Badylak joining in with a double of his own. McKinley advanced the runner to third on a ground ball, and was scored on a sacrifice fly from Keaton Ray to send things to extras.
MTSU couldn't do any damage in the top of the frame, and Liberty capitalized by hitting a walkoff home run to take the game 5-4.
